Historic recipes are a window into the kitchens (and cultures) of the past, though it's not always easy to determine how authentic a recipe might be. With the rise of mass media, popular recipes might be touched up in the newsroom, or original ingredients substituted (especially with sponsored products). For use today, a modern cook must determine if the ingredients noted are the same we find in our own grocery shelves. They probably best serve as inspiration for adventurous chefs. So test first before bringing it to the family reunion.
